Zenobia Organization implemented the “Together for a Stable Society” project with support from International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) over a period of eight months, from September 2024 to April 2025. The project aimed to empower young men and women in northern Syria to promote social cohesion and civil peace, in order to create greater opportunities for understanding and participation among different segments of society.
The project began as part of a planned community engagement strategy; however, the fall of the Syrian regime during the implementation phase marked a critical turning point. Project teams suddenly found themselves facing a new reality characterized by profound political and social shifts. Thanks to the project’s core focus on local peacebuilding and fostering mutual understanding among community components, it was able to adapt quickly and become more relevant and effective in this new phase. As a result, it addressed a genuine need in a society seeking stability after decades of conflict.
The project included a comprehensive series of activities targeting youth and women, including persons with disabilities. These activities featured specialized training programs in mediation skills, conflict resolution, community dialogue facilitation, and leadership of initiatives. In addition, one community awareness session and six innovative initiatives were implemented by “Peacebuilders,” alongside open dialogue sessions held across various areas in northern Syria—from Al-Bab to Azaz, Aleppo, and Idlib. The project also extended to refugee communities in Turkey and Europe, granting it a broad and deeply impactful societal dimension.
The importance of the project was especially evident in its rapid response to field developments, turning the fall of the regime from a challenge into an opportunity to launch constructive community dialogues. It emphasized the role of youth and women as key actors in achieving sustainable peace, activated the participation of marginalized groups, and strengthened citizens’ confidence in the possibility of peaceful change, coexistence, and building a shared future.
