HOMES FOR PEACE PROJECT

The goal of the “Homes for Peace” project is to spread the concepts of peacebuilding, peaceful coexistence, acceptance of others, and tolerance, and to provide the community with qualified female cadres (community influencers) that will increase social awareness of peace and activate the role of citizenship in order to defeat the extremist ideology inherited by the conflict conditions and war.

The project targeted Syrian refugee women in Syrian civil society through specialized training workshops on several topics (human rights and gender – active citizenship – peacebuilding – negotiation and mediation – community initiatives – facilitation skills).

The project activities were also based on the implementation of home sessions, which amounted to 80 sessions, and they discussed various topics on human rights, peacebuilding, and active citizenship. These sessions lasted for 12 months. Zenobia Association believes that the involvement of men from the targeted women’s families in discussing issues related to women’s roles has a great impact in supporting and raising the level of the Syrian family. Therefore, we worked on the participation of men in the various activities carried out by Zenobia through open dialogue sessions that revolve around the project’s goal. Twelve discussion sessions were carried out on a variety of topics. The project was concluded with the implementation of community initiatives led by women and men from the Syrian civil society to deal with issues related to combating violent extremism and peacebuilding by making use of the knowledge, skills, and relationships they received during the project implementation phases. The number of initiatives has reached (9) initiatives in order to achieve the involvement of the local community in issues related to combating violent extremism and in building peace and social integration directly, starting with the families and the surrounding communities
